Starbucks doesn’t like promotions going viral

Starbucks sent out an e-mail to a limited group of employees in the US offering a free iced coffee and asking them to share the voucher with friends and family. Of course the offer got sent on - i.e. went viral. The company ended the promotion quickly thereafter issuing a statement saying the e-mail had been “redistributed beyond the original intent and modified beyond Starbucks’ control”. Some companies try hard to get this sort of response from the public.
