Where ships go to die

Ever wondered where ships go once they’ve arrived at the end of their sailing life? Either they’re sunk (artifical reefs) or being dismantled. As the latter is a problem for most western countries due to the hazardous materials (e.g. asbestos) some Asian countries (Bangladesh, China and India) have become specialists in doing the job. And the job is being done by thousands of workers by hand.
If you want to find out more visit the Foreign Policy Magazine with their impressive photo essay The End Of The Line about Bangladesh’s Chittagong or the Greenpeace website which features heaps of info on that matter. Of course you can also see it all from the top courtesy of Google Maps.
